Departure day! From Nice to Paris, from Paris to Ananatarivo, what a trip!
We woke up to a beautiful sunny day at the Residence Hoteliere Fonenana in "Tana".
On their website www.locationtananarive.com you´ll find all information about the place.
It is a safe and clean place to stay at but the surroundings are not so good. This is the view from the balcony,
but we didn´t mind since the main purpose to be here was to go around discovering Madagascar!
By car we went to the Croc Farm which took us almost one hour from our "hotel" because of the always intense
traffic in Ananatarivo, but it was worth the effort.
The threatened Sifaka lemurs feel safe and happy in this park
and it was so nice talking to them
I think this is a red-bellied lemur, cutest ever!
The Fossa, who eats the lemurs, has to be kept behind bars
The croc farm did not only provide us with lemurs but also a large variety of snakes
and chameleonts
which I apperently do not appreciate very much
and BIG turtles
which I love even if it does not look like that on this snapshot
and of course hundreds of Nile crocodiles or as they call them in Madagascar Croco Mada laying around lazy
On our way to Andasibe
We stayed at the Feon ny Ala from where it is very easy to visit the National Rain Forest
The entrance fee for inhabitants and foreingers is huge
We started with a nice calm walk into the forest
It was hard to spot the indris but we succeeded
As we were in the rain forest it was raining
On our search for the frog
smallest I ever seen
A pregnant Silvie? No she is protecting her rucksack
We did not like the hotel Feon ny Ala nor the rain so we hit the road again and went to ville Melville
and spent the night together with the Jehova's at the Hotel Melville
Early next morning, on the road again, crossing the busy roads in ville Melville
passing the butcher
and watching craftsmen building walls
on the way to Toamasina we met Santa
and passed facilities
with natural standards
and observed fresh coconut transportation
Finally we arrived at the outskirts of Toamasina
were we took a quick break just to have fresh air in our hair
Let´s go!
and the journey went on to Mahambo
and finally we found the paradise - La Pirogue
some delicious watermelon, a drink and connection to the WEB!
and the best - a clean beach, sun and a nice warm wind
First time for Liva to see the ocean!
and for the first time in a long time without shoes!
Paradise!
Good food!
Seven o´clock in the morning trying to pay and this time by credit card!
On our way to Soanierana we passed the district for cultivating cloves - and you can really smell it
In Soanierana-Ivongo waiting for the registration office to open
Regristration officer trying to do his best without computer
Beer breakfast !
in the harbour of Soanierana-Ivongo
waiting for the f-king boat to arrive which was delayed by over one hour
On board at the Gasikara BE which was an unorganized, smelly, noisy and a dirty boat
Finally we left the harbour
and got some fresh air in our lungs
but not everybody felt the same
the trip took more than one hour
Arrival at the port Barachois in Ambodifotatra from where we took a tuk-tuk to our hotel
L´ibertalia which turned out to bee a good choice
happy after a successful check-in and a shower!
The day ended with a whale dance or breaching as it is called. The next days we spent on Sainte Marie
