We put our car on the train in Nice for transport up to Paris and the day after we personlized the same trip.
Late arrival in Cambrai at the Chateau de la Motte Fénelon which turned out to be outside Cambrai center.
They did not serve any dinner here, so dissapointed we had to go with the car once more into the center
just for having dinner. Early next morning up and away.
Grote Markt in Bergen op Zoom is a nice place to have lunch at.
Here we learned that kip means chicken in Dutch!
We continued our journey to Deventer which is a cosy city at the banks of the river IJssel.
Here we had a wonderful stay at Huis Vermeer opposite to the gigantic St. Lebuinus Church
Next morning we left Deventer and continued up to Wischhafen where they serve delicious Matjes
From Wischhafen you take a small ferry over the river Elbe to Glückstadt.
It is a very convenient way to avoid the busy traffic in Hamburg
We stayed in Helsingborg for a while just to celebrate my fathers 75th birthday
and then we were on the road again.
Our main destination was Hull but before that Edinburgh.
First stop was in Germany’s southernmost seaport city Papenburg where we stayed at the Hotel Alte Werft
Here we enjoyed a nice dinner in the “Schnürboden” Restaurant in the former site of the machine shops
Papenburg is mostly known for its Meyer Werft, one of the largest and most modern shipyards in the world.
After a nice breakfast we enjoyed Papenburg for a while before we continued our journey to
Lelystad a nice windy city with a big factory outlet center called Batavia Stad.
On the photo the famous scuplture of Henk Hofstra called "Above water". We had lunch and continued
on the 27- kilometer-long road that runs over the dike Houtribdijk from Lelystad to Enkhuizen
Our next stop was in the charming village Egmond aan Zee.
We decided to spend the night here and stayed at the Strandhotel Golfzang
Next day we drove to IJmuiden and boarded the DFDS ship Princess Seaways to cross the North Sea over to
Newcastle
We passed IJmuiden Beach on our way out of the harbour. The voyage had started and we relaxed.
Early arrival in Newcastle. We decided to find a cosy place to finish our day in, which we did!
Berwick-upon-Tweed was the choice - Here the Royal Border Bridge with its 28 arches
This charming hotel was our shelter for the night but before going to bed we had the hole day to explore the town

The weather was nice and we strolled around on the town walls
It was very nice and it was even nicer not to be in the car

It was time to move on if we wanted to come to Edinburgh

and they finally did
Early next morning out in the sunshine to start the day with a walk on the path up to the castle
which turned out to become a long walk... up and up and up
I had a rest with the memorable town dog called Bum before we arrived at the top

and we really enjoyed it
the food, the service, the beer everything was the best!
after the delicious lunch we waited in the sunshine for the taxi to pick us up. No way we were walking back!

Last evening we enjoyed the fireworks from our appartment

and then we were on our way again looking at sheeps
and taking pleasure from the scenario of the Scottish moores
Back in Berwick-upon-Tweed at the Quenn´s Head Hotel for some more of their delicious
Fish & Chips but this time together with Li and Magnus
After lunch we took a stroll in this nice old and odd village
as well as the surroundings before we headed off for Hull
Arrival in a rainy Hull and check in at the Kingston Theatre Hotel

Next day we started with a visit to The Deep, on of the UK´s biggest and best aquariums
and it was worth the effort to go and see it!
a lot of exotic creatures to enjoy which otherwise would be impossible living in the UK...
After The Deep we went back into town and found a nice pub named Lion and Key with very good rules
it was time for lunch
and some smiles and beers
After lunch a walk to the Marina Hull
from where you can see the Deep
and have a nice pint in one of the many pubs. We picked The Minerva!
After many pints we slowly walked back to our hotel for some sleep.
Next morning we drove to Tetbury

After this delicious lunch we were back on the small picturesque roads
as well as on the big motorways to
Brighton

We drove Li and Magnus to the railway station
and we continued to Icklesham for some lunch before
taking the ferry from Dover to Calais - Fini!
