Bonifacio Bastia Cap Corse Saint Florent Ile Russe Calvi Corte Ajaccio To the bottom
On the 25th of September we arrived by early plane from Nice in the capital Ajaccio
We finally found the car we rented and could start our roundtrip on Corsica. First destination was Bonifacio.
Bonifacio has a nice harbour where we had a delicious lunch before check in at the Hotel La Caravelle
After lunch you need some excersise, so we went for a walk
We followed the crowd
It was absolutely breathtaking beautiful and windy
The strait of Bonifacio with its limestone cliffs seen from the Corsican side
Our walk continued to the 187 steps long staircase of King Aragon
We went down and we went up, exciting and beautiful
After that we went to explore the fortification of Bonifacio
which we quickly ended because it was boring, nothing much to see, therefore no photos
It was more interesting walking around in the old parts of Bonifacio where we bought the traditional knife Vendetta
After breakfast next morning we went for a walk
and tried to go to the lighthouse but without success
so we turned around and went back to Bonifacio enjoying the white cliffs
the wind and the view
Bonifacio is a nice little town but our journey had to continue so
we left Bonifacio and drove into the mainland where we had a stop for lunch
at a restaurant I don't recall the name of but from where you have an astonishing view
We saw the moonrise in Bastia from the toproof of Hotel Port Toga where we spent one night
Early next morning we drove up to Cap Corse and on the way we spotted Ile Russe
Prepared for a walk
to the top
A Corsican lizzard came and said hello
Am I looking in the right direction?
We continued our roadtrip alongside the coast
which was beautiful
The roadtrip day ended in Saint Florent and we were lucky to get a room in the hotel La Roya
and we started our stay there with a lunch in the sun to celebrate my birthday
From our room we had this nice view. In the distance you see Saint-Florent to where we took a walk
to inspect their Genoese citadel constructed in 1440
but I was more impressed by this beautiful lonely tree
We went for a drink at the pond
and then to La Gaffe to reserv a table for the evening dinner
Next day we enjoyed in the sun on the beach
The day ended up with a bull in the garden!
Our journey continued
to the L´Ile Rousse
where we had a quick lunch before we inspected the towers
and had a nice walk before we drove to
Calvi which is claimed by many to be Christopher Columbus birthplace!
We found a nice place to stay, at the Hotel L´Abbaye
went for a superduper lunch in the harbour at "La Table Sabine", I felt at home
The view was nice
Calvi seen from the harbour
This ancient city is very nice to explore
with all their narrow alleys
and beautiful murals
Next day a trip to the former capital Corte with me not so happy a few hours after this picture was taken
We went for lunch and I had some Morchella (morels)
explored the city
inspected the fountain
Check in at the hotel Duc de Padoue and after that the morels took over my life, I went to hospital
After surviving the morel poisoning we returned to Ajjacio
the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte
Since I was still suffering from the incident which happened in Corte I could not enjoy Ajjacio very much,
but I had had a very pleasant time with a lot of culinary food!
